I have always encountered difficulty in saying experiences that i have been through, but somehow it feels a wee bit better when it's posted here.
mystery friend
- mission trip @ YunNan
i am ALWAYS in awed by the stories that she has to share. it's not only interesting but captivating that it sends you into a spiral of thoughts, and as always i thanked her for the insightful conversation just now over a platter of fish n chips.
but afterwards she said: ( something like this )
I was awarded with such opportunities that i hope through sharing these experiences, messages will then be spread or awareness formed about these not so fortunate communities.
Mission trip in YunNan (writing from a first person's POV)
We were housed in a 'hotel' without any heater and the toilet facilities there gave out a stench.
YunNan being only 14 Degree Celsius at that point of time, some of us were disgruntle at the condition of the 'hotel'.
This changed a few days later...
Could you imagine having to use water from villagers that had their supplies cut off for a week?
In order for the hotel to have sufficient water supply for 32 of us, 3 villages actually had their water supply cut off for a week.
How could your conscience live with that?
How would you feel if people gave you their year supply of protein?
yes, 32 eggs, 1 for each volunteer. To add on to the guilt, these eggs were red eggs (specially for newborns). The villagers were severely malnourished and, how could we live with it if we took away their scarcity supply of vitamins.
We gave them X34567 eggs back the very next day.
Fyi, their normal diet only consist of vegetables and staple food.
Having visited the local school, we intended to cook a feast for 300.
Some children asked for 2 servings, some asked for more to give it to their families.
But there was 1 particular who was worried,
worried that we didnt had food for ourselves...
at the end of the day, we had ongoing servings from 9am to 6pm.
and yes, we didnt get a single bite the entire day because we were bursting with satisfaction and fulfillment that the kids had eaten to their contentment. ;)
The very next day, parents, families came down personally (5hrs walk) to thank us for the meal that we cooked.
It wasnt particularly tasty, just luncheon meat, broccoli, beans and rice.
but they said: Thank you, I have never been so full in my entire life.
Hearing that, we know we just had to keep on with this initiative. ( did it for the next 3 days )
* Jess: I was thinking about how often i gorged myself with green bean soup and junk *
Apart from food, we prepared toothbrushes and toothpastes.
This necessity that we prepared, was their first prized possession.
In fact, it could be their first property that they have ever owned.
You should have seen their faces when we were teaching them the techniques of brushing their teeth.
Their gums were bleeding but yet they were beaming at us. It pained us to see such a scene, to witness how bad the conditions of their gums were :(
-the end-
the difference of this post is about the focus on this post on mission trip.
( instead of the usual macro view that was often talked about, i hope this post has conveyed a message )
depending on individual, the message would be viewed positively different from others.

reflection of week 6 @ MOM
This has been a journey of many firsts. It was my first desk bound job, first hand exposure to the working world and first time being the youngest in the pack. With my many firsts in this short span of 6 weeks, this has impacted my life in many ways.
“Extend kindness or love no matter how trivial it could be”
First and foremost, being the youngest of the pack and newest to their environment, I was always showered with abundance of love and concern. Serene provided opportunities and gave me mental preparation for every task assigned. Colleagues too, were unreasonably nice; cracking little jokes in the middle of stressful period and giving me the access to unlimited supply of snacks and chips.
These behaviours portrayed were very rare for me, and at times I find myself questioning “why are they so nice to me?” Being a leader and a friend in school, I was always giving “concern” to the people around me that it was actually daunting to realize that I have not been on the receiving end. However, this was a secondary matter because the actions of my colleagues actually made me feel that my current actions of “giving” had a certain positive impact to others. For example, being in a new environment, having no friends and absolutely strange about the surroundings, it would be heartwarming to have someone friendly and someone to depend on at times of loss. At MOM, I found my colleagues showing me the ropes and light and a tip of the iceberg about “working life”. I would like to thank them for integrating me into their world with absolutely little returns, though it might seem trivial, it has echoed an astounding effect on me.
The world has so much for me to explore. MOM have given me opportunities to hone my application skills and at same time, picked up new things along the way. Thank you for presenting the opportunities, and I hoped I was of help.
“A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities and an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties” I will always bring along the attitude of a optimist, thank you for highlighting that strength of mine and last but not least this memorable learning journey that I had at MOM.

friends forever
I believe in friends forever and have always showed my concern to these ppl. and have always been successful so far. reason being:
1. very particular of this category of friends. I guess any form of relationships take 2 hands to clap. it's either u are not worth it anymore, or u don't reciprocate the friendship
2. no time make time
this is abt maintaining this group of friends. it's about finding or even making time for them, showing simple gestures. showing that u care
3.understanding
understand that we have a life and giving ample space and time. and the ample amt of care and concern and trust.
toodles, not really in the right mind of writing.
probably cause I am retracting what I said. and a future possibility of putting up an act.

mind over body
I need to do all I can to mitigate damages.
jy!! :)
the current predicament
I have failed to stick to my plans.
why have I failed?
simply put, SLOTH. I was lazy and it got the better of me.
I wasn't on task, I was distracted by various forms of social media and what not.
and now have 3 days left before the big presentation.
I am not asking for sympathy, but learn from my mistake. cause the consequence is too much too bear and the pressure is too much to hold.
Otw for mentoring now, will be fine there. for I will worry only I face the 4 walls of my room. no point sharing the misery right??
well played jess.
